Lisa Callif Joins “The Producer Podcast” to Discuss the Legal Clearance Process
Lisa Callif recently appeared on “The Producer Podcast” where she discusses the legal aspects of creating a film, from the nuances of the clearance process to navigating the use of emerging AI technologies.
In the episode, titled “The Fine Print,” Lisa walks host Micah Versemann through her career trajectory and her current role in independent filmmaking law where she “represents independent content creators from the beginning to the end of a project.” She continues to unpack clearance issues, including the process of reviewing a script to ensure content does not violate an individual’s personal rights. Lisa also advises filmmakers to exercise caution when it comes to AI technology now that the Copyright Office has issued a statement that AI creations are not copyrightable.
Lisa urges filmmakers to stop postponing legal help and contact a lawyer early, as it “costs a client more money for us to backtrack, redo things, put things in the right order, or get the right documents in place, but if we were just doing it along the way, it would [be] a lot easier.”
