Partner Michael Donaldson Celebrates 50 Years Practicing Law

Donaldson & Callif celebrated Partner Michael Donaldson’s 50 years of practicing law on July 30. The event was held at the Greystone Mansion and was attended by numerous individuals in the entertainment industry.

Michael has been fighting for independent filmmakers for over 30 years. In 2016, alongside Partner Christopher Perez, Michael successfully appealed to the U.S. Copyright Office for an exemption to the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (DMCA), enabling filmmakers to pull material from DVD, Blu-ray and digitally transmitted video for fair use purposes. Michael also serves as General Counsel to Film Independent (home of the Independent Spirit Awards and the Los Angeles Film Festival) and the Writers Guild Foundation, and was honored as a California Lawyer Attorney of the Year in 2016.
