Michael Donaldson Featured in Other People’s Footage: Copyright & Fair Use
Other People’s Footage, a film about the doctrine of fair use, turned to Michael Donaldson to discuss the ins and outs of the four statutory factors that must be considered to validate fair use. He also explained his 3-question approach to determining fair use in audio-visual projects. Other People’s Footage also features interviews with documentarians, filmmakers and legal experts presenting their views on the issue of creators claiming fair use for projects that incorporate selections from other works, such as digital footage and music clips.
Michael has discussed fair use through a variety of platforms, including authoring the book Clearance and Copyright, advising on the Documentary Filmmakers’ Statement of Best Practices in Fair Use, and authoring numerous articles.
