Daily Journal Turns to Lisa Callif Discussing the Rise of Copyright Infringement Suits

The rise of copyright infringement suits among the Independent film industry has observers wondering if efforts are being made to protect creative content from piracy, or to extract settlements. Partner Lisa Callif discussed this trend with Daily Journal in the article, “Copyright suits rise as studios combat alleged piracy.” Ms. Callif says that producers and their teams may turn to litigation as a last resort in an attempt to recoup their investment.

“I don’t think suing individuals is the best strategy, but I understand the pressure that an independent producer has,” she adds. “These guys spend years putting their films together and it’s so hard to get their money back.”
