Chris Perez Joins Podcast “Making Movies is HARD!!!” to Discuss Legal Challenges in Indie Filmmaking

Chris Perez was recently invited to appear on “Making Movies is HARD!!!: The Struggles of Indie Filmmaking,” a podcast hosted by film director Liz Manashil and producer Alrik Bursell. In the episode, Chris describes his professional journey and provides guidance on the top legal considerations that creatives should be mindful of when undertaking a new independent production.

Highlighting one instance where he is able to help many filmmakers understand the need for sound legal advice, Chris asks, “[A]t what point are you starting to bring people that aren’t inside your close circle into the project, where you’re making an arrangement with someone to say ‘We’re going to partner on this film and take it to the next level?’”

“I see that conversation happening all the time without a contract,” he continues. “[A]t that point you really want something in writing so that the two parties understand what the expectations are, because that conversation can happen a million times and there are plenty of situations where different people heard different things.”
